Gas aid: how to get the benefit

The federal government released the payment of the gas aid installment, one of the most important social benefits today. This program benefits millions of families across the country, but to be entitled to the benefit you must register with Cadúnico. In short, this registry works as an instrument for various government benefits to reach those who need it most.

In recent months, cooking gas has increased considerably. As a result, many families were unable to purchase the cylinder, which in some states of the country exceeded the value of R$100.00. In this way, the government subsidizes part of the value of this input through gas aid. Therefore, it is a program that helps with budgeting in a practical and direct way.

This program benefits millions of families across the country, but many people still don't know how the registration works. Knowing this lack of information, in this content you can answer the main questions about gas assistance, as well as register to receive the benefit.

Who is entitled to gas aid

Families in extreme poverty or with low income, who have a per capita family income of less than or equal to half the minimum wage (R$ 606) are eligible to receive their voucher. These families must also be up to date with their registration in the Single Registry (CadÚnico).

In addition to people who are in CadÚnico, beneficiaries of the Continuous Payment Benefit (BPC/Loas) who live in the same house can receive the amount. These are people who receive a monthly minimum wage (R$ 1212), as disabled people or as elderly people aged 65 or over, with low income.

In the case of domestic violence, the law that regulates aid gives preference to women who suffer from the condition. They must be under some legal measure, which provides protection against aggression in the family environment. The payment rule also follows the even-numbered month scheme, according to the end of the social registration number (NIS). In other words, it is only paid for people who are in CadÚnico.

Guidelines for obtaining assistance

The federal government indicates that aid is paid to those who have their own CadÚnico. Therefore, you need to go to any Social Assistance Reference Center (CRAS) in your city and register.

In addition to this special registration, people benefiting from Auxílio Brasil are also eligible to receive a government gas voucher. However, those responsible at the city hall who carry out the registration first observe the condition of the family that will receive the aid.

Therefore, the data that was filled in when joining CadÚnico must be viewed carefully. Any doubts can be resolved by consulting the Caixa Tem app or by calling 111 (Caixa Econômica Federal) and 121 (Ministry of Citizenship).

Temporary increase in gas aid

Recently the government announced a series of measures to mitigate the high price of fuel, including an increase in gas aid. The objective is to alleviate the impact of rising gas prices on Brazilian families. From the August installment onwards, the aid amount becomes R$110.00. In addition, the government also announced changes to the gas aid calendar.

The increase in gas aid will benefit millions of Brazilian families. To give you an idea, the average value of a gas cylinder in Brazil is R$ 120.00 per month. With the increase in the benefit, these families will have a discount of almost 100% of the value.

In addition to the increase in gas aid, the government also announced a series of measures to reduce the impact of rising gas prices on Brazilian families. One of them is the exemption from the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICMS) on natural gas for states that adhere to the measure. Another is the creation of a fund to subsidize the price of gas for the most vulnerable families.

The expectation is that, with the measures announced by the government, the impact of rising fuel prices on Brazilian families will be minimized. To learn more about other government programs, check out the “benefits“.

Other information

As it is expected to last for the next four years, people who receive the gas voucher can count on a long-term benefit, bringing their bills up to date, without much worry.

Added to this is the fact that Auxílio Brasil may remain government policy in the coming years. There is even an attempt to remove aid from the spending ceiling next year. This way, the program stays outside this budget limit.

That's why, on May 10, the Senate approved a provisional measure that leaves the benefit as permanent. What is expected is that, like this program, the gas voucher will also remain in the same condition.
